A money fair in the city where the euro was born

“The treaty that created the European Union and paved the way for the euro was signed here.”

Birthplace of the euro

On 9 and 10 December 1991, the leaders of twelve European countries met in Maastricht and agreed on a European Union with a single currency. The Maastricht Treaty was signed two months later, on 7 February 1992, in the Provincial Government building on the river Meuse. Every euro banknote in your collection traces back to that decision. There are few better places to hold an international paper money fair.

One of the oldest cities in the Netherlands

Maastricht has been inhabited continuously for some twenty centuries. It grew from a Roman settlement on the Meuse into a medieval religious centre, a garrison town and an early industrial city. Today it is the capital of the province of Limburg: a compact, walkable city with 1,677 national heritage sites, known for its restaurants, its shops and its international atmosphere.

From the MECC into the city

From the Forum MECC bus stop, buses run on average every five minutes to the city centre and Maastricht Central Station.
